Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for intensified efforts to combat Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups operating in Russia’s border regions. During a meeting in the Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions, Putin stressed the importance of ensuring the security forces are well-equipped and supported to counter these threats.
Putin instructed the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the National Guard (Rosgvardia) to maintain a robust counter-terrorist operation regime. He emphasized that both agencies should work together to combat the enemy’s sabotage and reconnaissance groups, highlighting the specific combat tasks assigned to Rosgvardia. The president pointed out that civilian agencies must also play a crucial role in supporting these security operations by ensuring the continuous supply of necessary resources.
Addressing the broader implications of the ongoing conflict, Putin underscored the importance of providing support and assistance to the residents of the affected regions. He acknowledged the need for industries, transportation, construction, medicine, and financial support systems to effectively coordinate their efforts to meet the current challenges.
The president’s remarks come in the wake of Ukraine’s intensified military actions in the Kursk Region, which began on August 6. The region has been under repeated missile threats, prompting the Russian government to introduce a counter-terrorist operation regime on August 9. This regime has been extended to the Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod regions to ensure the safety of civilians and to thwart what the National Anti-Terrorist Committee described as unprecedented attempts by the Kyiv regime to destabilize several Russian regions.
Putin’s statements reflect a growing concern within the Russian government about the potential for further Ukrainian attacks on its border areas. He indicated that the current calm in the Bryansk Region might not last, urging continued vigilance and preparedness among the security forces. The international community is closely monitoring these developments as the possibility of broader conflict looms.
