With the recent escalation of violence, the Israeli Army has confirmed an airstrike on the Balata refugee camp east of Nablus. According to the Israeli army, the operation targeted a Palestinian identified as a “wanted man”. The person targeted by the airstrike died and the paramedic was seriously injured.
The incident was reported by Israel’s military radio, which said the plane attacked the camp. The military later repeated the attack on social media platform X, where they confirmed the target of the attack. According to preliminary data, a drone was used in the operation.
The attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region. Earlier in the day, Palestinians reportedly opened fire on an Israeli military compound near one of the entrances to Nablus, injuring an Israeli soldier. The army said this firing started deep in the city, which led to the subsequent attack on the Balata camp.
In response to the attack, the Israeli army carried out extensive combat operations in the area. A military spokesman described the operations as part of their wider efforts to address ongoing security threats in the region. “Our forces are conducting combing operations in the area,” the spokesman said in a statement.
The Balata refugee camp has long been the centre of conflict between Israeli forces and Palestinians. The airstrike and its aftermath further exacerbated an already volatile situation and sparked international concerns about an increase in violence.
A paramedic injured in the attack is said to be in critical condition, further raising concerns about the impact of such military operations on civilian and medical personnel. The situation remains tense and further developments are expected as the Israeli army continues to operate in the area.
This case underscores the ongoing and often deadly nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, highlighting the urgent need for renewed dialogue and efforts to resolve it.
