Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has called for a decisive military response against Hezbollah following a rocket attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Ben-Gvir made the comments during a visit to Katzrin, a settlement damaged in the attack, where one person was injured and property was affected.
Speaking at the site of the incident, Ben-Gvir emphasized that Israel should not hesitate to strike back at Hezbollah, labelling the moment as a crucial opportunity for the state to respond forcefully. Ben-Gvir stated that we also have to attack, we also have to make a campaign. “This is the opportunity we must not miss.”
Hezbollah, the Lebanese-based militant group, has been involved in escalating tensions with Israel for months, particularly since Israel’s operations in Gaza began last year. The new missile attack is another chapter in the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has been increasing along the border between Israel and Lebanon.
Benguir, known for his hard-line views, has consistently pushed for more military action against Hezbollah and has pushed for more influence over Israel’s military policy than ever before. He insisted that the government’s response should be “comprehensive” and decisive. He said that the Israeli government must respond in a very clear and transparent way.
The call for a stronger military response comes as Israel continues to struggle with regional conflicts and an ongoing war with Hezbollah. Hezbollah has been involved in periodic attacks on Israeli military targets, and tensions between the two sides have raised fears of a larger war.
Although Ben-Gvir’s comments resonated with some factions of the Israeli government and military, critics warned that a hostile campaign could escalate the situation and lead to a regional conflict.
