Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is heading to the Quad summit. He will also be making a high-level diplomatic visit to the United States. Leaders from Australia, the United States, Japan, and India will meet to discuss important issues such as security in the Indo-Pacific, economic cooperation, and climate action during this visit. The visit is timed with an inflexion point in global geopolitics.
PM Modi will meet US President Joe Biden, among other world leaders, on a three-day visit, and both will hold a series of meetings to serve the intention of strengthening bilateral relations between India and the US, especially in trade, technology, and defence. It may leave positive outcomes, such as stronger strategic cooperation on emerging technologies, clean energy, and semiconductors.
The quad summit would be a critical opportunity for the four countries to reaffirm their shared commitment to maintaining peace and stability and upholding a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific region. The Quad sees a need for greater cooperation to enhance the development of infrastructure, economic connectivity, as well as maritime cooperation among the four nations as an inclusive response to growing Chinese assertiveness in the region. The presence of Modi at the conference underlines the critical role that India is playing in forming this security architecture for the Indo-Pacific region.
Discussions on global issues, including food security, preparedness for pandemics, and climate change, are also likely to be a part of the discussions and agreements that will be made during the visit by PM Modi. The country’s visit is also going to improve India’s position globally and further strengthen its strategic ties.
High-level bilaterals between American business leaders of repute and India’s diaspora are expected in the latter’s visit to the United States. Their objective will be to enhance the investment opportunities in different sectors like digital infra, pharmaceuticals, and renewable energy. The visit is slated to further enhance the economic relationship between the two countries and revitalize India as a destination for FDI.
