Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways resolves 100 key issues at 20th MSDC, launches IIMDRC initiative

The purpose of the meeting was to officially establish the Indian Infrastructure Maritime Dispute Resolution Committee (IIMDRC), a project designed to resolve conflicts in the maritime industry.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) successfully addressed more than 100 important issues affecting maritime infrastructure across various states at the 20th meeting of the Maritime State Development Council (MSDC). The occasion was a turning point in the ministry’s attempts to improve and streamline India’s inland and maritime waterways industries. Under the direction of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the MSDC convened important players to deliberate and find solutions to pressing issues, with a particular emphasis on port, coastal infrastructure, and logistics development.

The purpose of the meeting was to officially establish the Indian Infrastructure Maritime Dispute Resolution Committee (IIMDRC), a project designed to resolve conflicts in the maritime industry. By offering a specialised forum for the settlement of conflicts about infrastructure development and operations, the IIMDRC is expected to accelerate project timelines and promote an enhanced regulatory environment.

MoPSW’s proactive approach to collaborating closely with state governments and maritime stakeholders to enhance the operational efficiency of the sector is evident in the resolution of more than 100 issues. A wide range of topics were addressed, such as obtaining environmental clearances, developing hinterland connectivity, and acquiring land for port development. The National Maritime Vision 2030, which aims to develop India’s ports into world-class facilities, is being advanced by the combined efforts.

To meet India’s objectives for maritime development, Union Minister Sonowal underlined the significance of cooperation between federal and state agencies. He emphasised the MSDC as a vital forum for tackling state-specific issues and promoting a coordinated strategy for infrastructure expansion.

Important strides have been made in furthering India’s maritime aspirations, assisting the country’s endeavour to become a global maritime hub, and guaranteeing the seamless and effective development of infrastructure with the MSDC meeting and the IIMDRC’s inception.
