Indian Navy launches green initiative in collaboration with NGO to reduce plastic and e-waste

Vice Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, highlighted that the Navy’s commitment to sustainability aligns with its long-term vision of becoming an eco-friendly force.

The Indian Navy has joined hands with the NGO Project Mumbai to launch a campaign aimed at reducing plastic and electronic waste. Naval officers, along with residents of naval areas, pledged to adopt sustainable practices, ensuring that no plastic or e-waste from their communities ends up in landfills. This initiative is a significant step in the Navy’s broader mission to go green and contribute to India’s environmental conservation efforts.

The campaign, organized in partnership with Project Mumbai, focuses on raising awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and improper disposal of e-waste. It encourages individuals to adopt eco-friendly alternatives, recycle responsibly, and support the creation of zero-waste environments. Naval officers and their families have committed to actively participating in the collection, segregation, and recycling of plastic and e-waste within their residential communities.

As part of the initiative, collection drives will be conducted regularly in naval housing areas, where residents can dispose of their plastic and electronic waste in designated bins. The collected materials will then be processed by authorized recycling agencies, preventing them from ending up in landfills and causing environmental harm. Project Mumbai, known for its waste management expertise, will oversee the program and ensure proper recycling protocols are followed.
