CONCOR expands DPD services to enhance efficiency in Indian cargo movement

DPD services allow importers to receive cargo directly from the port and bring it to their premises without intermediate handling at the container freight stations (CFS).

The Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR) is set to boost its Direct Port Delivery (DPD) services as part of a strategic initiative to streamline cargo movement and improve efficiency across Indian ports. This expansion aims to address growing demand and enhance the overall logistics infrastructure.

DPD services allow importers to receive cargo directly from the port and bring it to their premises without intermediate handling at the container freight stations (CFS). This approach not only reduces turnaround time but also minimizes costs associated with warehousing and transportation. CONCOR’s plan to increase DPD services reflects a broader push to optimize port operations and support India’s logistics sector.

Currently, CONCOR operates several DPD terminals across key locations, including Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi. The expansion will involve the development of additional DPD terminals and the enhancement of existing facilities to accommodate higher volumes. This move is expected to significantly reduce congestion at major ports and streamline the clearance process for importers.

The initiative aligns with the Indian government’s focus on improving port efficiency and reducing logistics costs under the “Sagarmala” program. By expanding DPD services, CONCOR aims to facilitate smoother cargo flows, thereby supporting the growth of trade and enhancing the competitiveness of Indian ports on the global stage.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the expansion, noting that it will address some of the critical bottlenecks in the current logistics framework. The increased efficiency is anticipated to benefit a wide range of industries, from manufacturing to retail, by ensuring faster and more reliable delivery of goods.

As CONCOR moves forward with its plans, the emphasis on enhancing DPD services highlights a commitment to modernizing India’s logistics infrastructure. This development is poised to contribute to the broader goal of transforming India’s ports into world-class facilities, driving economic growth, and improving the ease of doing business in the country.
