DNV, a global leader in risk management and quality assurance, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation. This strategic partnership aims to enhance sustainability efforts within Mumbai Port and the broader maritime industry in India.
The MoU, which was signed during a formal ceremony in Mumbai, outlines a collaborative framework between DNV and the Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation to address key environmental challenges facing the maritime industry. The partnership will focus on implementing best practices in sustainability, reducing the environmental impact of port operations, and promoting green technologies.
Under the terms of the agreement, DNV will provide its expertise in sustainability assessment, risk management, and certification services to support Mumbai Port’s efforts to achieve its environmental goals. The collaboration will involve conducting sustainability audits, developing strategies to minimize carbon emissions, and exploring innovative solutions for waste management and energy efficiency at the port.
A key aspect of the partnership is the promotion of sustainable development goals (SDGs) within the port’s operations. Both organizations are committed to aligning their efforts with the United Nations’ SDGs, particularly those related to climate action, life below water, and responsible consumption and production. This initiative is expected to set a benchmark for other ports in India and the region to follow.
Speaking at the MoU signing, a senior representative from DNV highlighted the importance of this collaboration in driving sustainable growth in the maritime sector.
The Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation, established to foster sustainable practices within the port’s ecosystem, views this partnership as a major milestone in its mission. The foundation has been actively involved in various environmental initiatives, including mangrove conservation, marine biodiversity protection, and reducing pollution in the port’s vicinity.
