Rosan Roeslani’s appointment as Indonesia’s new Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) is strongly supported by the business community. Roeslani, a seasoned diplomat and business leader, officially assumed the role on August 19, following a significant cabinet reshuffle by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Roeslani, who replaces Bahlil Lahadalia, is widely recognized for his expertise in finance and investment, having previously served as Indonesia’s Ambassador to the United States and Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). His appointment is seen as a strategic move to maintain momentum on key national projects, particularly the development of the new capital city, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan.
Businesses are optimistic about Roeslani’s leadership, noting his extensive background in both government and private sectors. As the former chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), Roeslani is credited with fostering close ties between the government and the business community, which will be essential as Indonesia seeks to attract more foreign investment.
In his inaugural address, Roeslani emphasized the importance of teamwork and continuity, building on the foundation laid by his predecessor, Bahlil Lahadalia. “We must work together to achieve the ambitious targets set for us,” he stated while praising Lahadalia’s efforts to streamline investment processes and attract international investors.
The appointment comes at a crucial time, with Indonesia’s investment targets under scrutiny. The government aims to accelerate investment flows into strategic sectors, including infrastructure, digital economy, and green energy. Businesses are particularly keen to see progress on the new capital city project, which is expected to drive significant economic growth.
With the backing of both the private sector and government, Roeslani is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping Indonesia’s investment landscape in the final months of President Jokowi’s administration.
