China and Indonesia announced plans to strengthen ties across pivotal sectors, including lithium, green energy, and tourism, in a joint statement following a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and newly inaugurated Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The talks, held during Prabowo’s official visit to Beijing, signal Jakarta’s strategic prioritization of its relationship with Beijing. Prabowo, who assumed office in October, selected China as his first foreign destination, underlining a strong diplomatic commitment.
The two leaders pledged cooperation in advancing new energy vehicles, lithium battery development, and photovoltaic projects, aiming to drive global development through green and digital economic initiatives. This collaboration is intended to leverage each nation’s strengths in resource endowments and production capabilities, boosting mutual economic progress.
Efforts to rejuvenate tourism will include multi-entry, long-term visas and increased direct flights to and from Indonesia. The initiative targets surpassing pre-pandemic travel levels and fostering greater cultural exchange.
During Prabowo’s visit, several agreements were signed, including housing collaboration and new measures for exporting fresh Indonesian coconuts to China. These steps, the leaders highlighted, reflect a shared vision to enhance economic growth and regional stability through strategic cooperation.
