The Kremlin announced on Friday that it had not been informed about the arrest of a Russian citizen suspected of plotting an attack on the upcoming Olympic Games. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov addressed the media, expressing the government’s lack of awareness regarding the incident.
“We have not received any official information concerning the arrest of a Russian citizen in connection with any alleged plans to target the Olympics,” Peskov stated during his briefing. He emphasized that the Kremlin had only learned about the situation through media reports and was seeking further details.
The arrest reportedly took place in a foreign country, although specific details about the location and the nature of the suspected plot remain unclear. Authorities are tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation, citing security concerns and the sensitive nature of the matter.
Peskov assured that the Russian government is ready to cooperate fully with international authorities to clarify the situation and ensure the safety of the Olympic Games. “If any official requests for cooperation or information are received, we will certainly consider them and provide all necessary assistance,” he added.
The incident has raised concerns about the security measures in place for the upcoming Olympics. Organizers have been working closely with international law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of the athletes and spectators. The arrest of a suspected plotter has underscored the persistent threat of terrorism and the need for vigilance in the lead-up to the event.
In the meantime, the Kremlin has called for caution and emphasized the importance of obtaining verified information before drawing conclusions. “We urge everyone to refrain from speculative assumptions until all the facts are known,” Peskov remarked.
As the investigation continues, the international community remains on high alert, underscoring the critical importance of global cooperation in combating potential threats to major international events like the Olympic Games.
