US troops to remain in Afghan until every American is evacuated: Joe Biden

“The US is committed to getting every American out of Afghanistan, even if it means potentially extending the mission beyond the August 31 deadline for total withdrawal,” he said in an exclusive interview with the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). 

US President Joe Biden on Wednesday said that US troops will remain in Afghanistan until every American is evacuated from the country. Biden will be extending his August 31 deadline to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan. 

“The US is committed to getting every American out of Afghanistan, even if it means potentially extending the mission beyond the August 31 deadline for total withdrawal,” he said in an exclusive interview with the American Broadcasting Company (ABC).

The statement came following the evacuation of 5,000 people from Kabul airport. According to ANI, armed Taliban members kept some Afghans desperate to leave the country from reaching the airport.

Taliban on Wednesday told Reuters that the country may be ruled by a ruling council while Taliban’s supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada, would likely remain in overall charge. 

In Jalalabad, Taliban members opened fire at civilians who tried to install the national flag, killing at least three people. 

On August 15, the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan, putting an end to the 20-year-old war with the USA. Soon after nations started the evacuation process to bring diplomats and citizens safely back to their country. Taliban in an official statement said that diplomats and foreign citizens will not be harmed. They also declared a ‘general amnesty’ for government officials who were urged to return to the offices.
