Vice President JD Vance announced that the high-stakes US-Iran trilateral peace talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, have concluded without reaching a final agreement.
Speaking after the marathon negotiations, Vance stated that the Iranian delegation decided not to accept the US terms, leading to the collapse of efforts to convert the fragile two-week ceasefire into a lasting peace deal.
“The Iranians decided not to accept our terms,” Vance said, delivering a clear assessment of why the talks failed despite hours of intense discussions mediated by Pakistan.
Trump Administration Maintains Strong Position
President Donald Trump had earlier expressed confidence, stating “we win either way” — whether a deal was reached or not. The US side believes recent military actions have left America in a position of strength, with Iran’s capabilities significantly degraded.
Vance’s remarks signal that Washington is prepared to return to maximum pressure if necessary, including potential resumption of targeted operations. The administration has repeatedly warned that it will not accept a bad deal and that Iran must negotiate in good faith.
