Trump says Chicago mayor and Illinois governor should be jailed for ‘failing to protect’ ICE officers

United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday criticized Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, saying they should be in jail for “failing to protect” US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. The remarks came through a short post on his Truth Social account.

Trump’s statement follows an ongoing dispute between his administration and Illinois authorities. Earlier this week, the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its plan to deploy the National Guard in the state, calling the move illegal.

Governor Pritzker termed the proposal “madness,” adding that “the brave men and women who serve in our national guard must not be used as political props.” The clash underscores rising tensions between the federal government and state leadership over immigration enforcement and federal authority.
