U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States could consider taking control of the Strait of Hormuz, while issuing a strong warning to Iran amid ongoing tensions in the region.
Speaking in an interview with CBS News, Trump said that ships have resumed moving through the strategic waterway but indicated that Washington may explore a more direct role in overseeing the route.
“As for the Strait of Hormuz, ships are moving through now, but I’m thinking about taking it over,” Trump said during the interview.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints for global energy trade, serving as a key passage for oil shipments from the Middle East to international markets.
Trump also issued a sharp warning to Iran, claiming the country had already used much of its military capability during the ongoing conflict.
“They’ve shot everything they have to shoot, and they better not try anything cute or it’s going to be the end of that country,” Trump said.
The remarks come as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to draw global attention, particularly due to the potential impact on shipping routes, energy markets and regional security. Trump’s comments signal that the United States may consider stronger measures to secure the crucial waterway if tensions escalate further.
