
Russia, which came up with the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine in August is set to unveil another potential COVID-19 vaccine by October 15, the TASS news agency cited Russian consumer safety watchdog Rospotrebnadzor as saying on Tuesday.
The vaccine has been developed by Siberia’s Vector Institute, which completed early-stage human trials of the vaccine last week. Russia’s first vaccine, ‘Sputnik V’ was developed by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute and already administered to many top officials on the country, Late-stage trials, involving at least 40,000 people, are ongoing.
According to the World Health Organization(WHO) across the globe, more than 200 potential vaccine candidates are being developed and trialled, with at least 24 in the human clinical trial phase.
