As the Rohingya refugee crisis has entered its fourth year, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for greater attention to address the root causes of the conflict.

Mr. Guterres said the UN is committed to working with all stakeholders, including regional actors, towards a future of sustainable development and peace in Myanmar.

He called for greater urgency to the crisis by addressing the root causes of the conflict and creating conducive conditions for the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of all refugees.

“The ultimate responsibility rests with Myanmar authorities, who have committed to implementing the recommendations of the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State. Beyond solutions for immediate humanitarian suffering, accountability is imperative for long-term reconciliation,” Mr. Guterres said.
