Pakistan’s Ex PM Imran Khan undergoes proceedings in the Toshakhana Case

Previously, it had been reported that lower court in Islamabad had found Imran Khan guilty with a three-year jail sentence on August 5th.

In the previous developments ,a lower court in Islamabad had found Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), guilty and slammed a three-year jail sentence on August 5th on him. The court had initially found him guilty as he was involved in illegally selling state gifts,this came to be popularly known as the Toshakhana corruption case. The court had handed him out a disqualification from politics for five years.

Earlier today, Islamabad High Court made a significant decision by suspending the conviction and three-year prison sentence of former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan in the case and has consequently ordered his release on bail. Another Pakistani court had said that Khan’s detention will continue in the “cypher case”, which is connected to the leak of a secret diplomatic cable that Khan says proves his allegation that the United States had strategically planned to remove him from power last year.Last week, the Pakistani Supreme Court had observed there were “shortcomings” in the judgment of the sessions court. The Supreme Court panel led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial said the verdict for the imprisonment was given without much investigation and without the giving the accused the right to defence. “Prima facie, there are shortcomings in the trial court verdict,” said Chief Justice Bandial .


A Pakistani court had also granted pre-arrest bail to Bushra Bibi, who is the wife of jailed ex -prime minister Imran Khan, upto September 12 in multiple graft cases.The court seemingly pproved her bail plea against a surety bond of ₹500,000.Bushra Bibi has her name in numerous graft cases, including the Toshakhana and Al-Qadir University Trust cases.
