Lebanese diplomat Mustapha Adib appointed new PM ahead of Macron visit

Lebanese diplomat Mustapha Adib has been designated as the new premier, hours before the arrival of French President Emmanuel Macron in Beirut.

Adib, who has been Lebanon’s ambassador to Germany since 2013, is affiliated with a small Sunni party led by former PM Najib Mikati.

He also got support from most parliamentary blocs, including Hezbollah and the Saudi-backed party of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

Adib said it was no longer the time for words and promises. It’s time for work to dovetail efforts and join hands, to restore hope among the Lebanese.
