Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a new way for Ukrainians to find solace and start a new life temporarily or permanently. On Friday amidst the increasing refugee crisis in Ukraine Trudeau said the new program will be the fastest and easiest way to enter Canada as they waive off the usual stringent visa requirements for Ukrainians.
There will be a special way in for Ukrainians with family members who are existing Canadian citizens or are permanent residents of Canada. The pathway towards permanent residence will be the special family reunification sponsorship.
Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will introduce new immigration policies for Ukrainians who want to enter Canada permanently or temporarily. This is the Canadian Government’s subtle retaliatory move to reassure Canada’s support towards Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion. People fleeing from Ukraine can take up the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel and the number of Ukrainians that can apply will be limitless.
IRCC Promises to let the Ukrainians apply for work permits, it will give away work permits to both skilled and unskilled persons including students who can’t go home.
Trudeau had spoken with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy where he reassured him that Canada will stand alongside Ukraine in these troubled times with Russia and continue to support it until Ukraine needs them to.
Trudeau also affirmed that his country and his allies will actively increase efforts in protecting the displaced Ukrainians. He strongly condemns Putin to have aggressively attacked Ukraine showing no respect to the UN charter or founding principles of the European Union.
Ukraine has so far seen over a million people fleeing the country and the US has halted the deportation of Ukrainians and this move is likely to support 30,000 Ukrainians. The United Nations warned that the number of Ukrainians fleeing is likely to increase from a million to 4 million.
