Israel, UAE agree to normalise diplomatic ties, Trump announces the “Historic Peace Agreement”

US President Donal Trump, on Thursday, announced that Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reached a landmark accord to normalize relations between the two countries. The US-brokered deal would normalize diplomatic relations and begin cooperation in areas such as security, trade, and tourism.

A joint statement after a 3-way phone call, Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan said that Israel will suspend declaring sovereignty over areas outlined in the President’s Vision for Peace and focus its efforts now on expanding ties with other countries in the Arab and Muslim world.

Mr.Trump told the reporters, “This deal is a significant step towards building a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous the Middle East,” according to the New York Times.

But Netanyahu’s plan to give up claiming sovereignty over West Bank territory has created a backlash in the region.

“I will make special announcement at 8 pm with more details about the historic day for the State of Israel,” according to a tweet by Netanyahu.

Israeli and UAE delegates are expected to meet in order to sign bilateral agreements in the coming weeks.

According to media reports Trump said that this pact will help in greater outreach of Israel to Gulf Arab countries where Iran’s influence is feared and would lead to greater cooperation on investment, tourism, security, technology, energy, and other areas between the two countries.

Trump described it as a “Huge breakthrough” and a “Historic Peace Agreement.”

UAE would become the third Arab country to have normal diplomatic relations with Israel along with Egypt and Jordan if the pact is fulfilled and would possibly make other Arab nations to follow suit.
