In a coordinated rescue operation conducted by the Indian Navy on the Western Seaboard, a fishing vessel named FV Bewina, with a crew of 11, received critical assistance on 17th February 2023. The vessel was provided with urgent food, fuel, and medical aid, highlighting the Navy’s commitment to maritime safety and humanitarian efforts.
The rescue operation was initiated after a distress call was received by a Dornier aircraft operating under the Western Naval Command. The Indian fishing vessel FV Bewina was found adrift for around 48 hours, lacking essential supplies such as fuel, fresh water, and food. Upon receiving the distress call, the message was promptly relayed to the Southern Naval Command.
In response to the distress call, INS Sunayna, which was on a mission deployed in the Arabian Sea, was diverted towards the location of the stranded fishing vessel. The timely intervention of the Indian Navy ensured that the crew of FV Bewina received the necessary assistance without delay.
Upon reaching the location, INS Sunayna provided fuel, fresh water, and ration supplies to the crew of the fishing vessel. Additionally, medical aid was administered to address any health concerns among the crew members. The swift and effective response by the Indian Navy averted a potential maritime disaster and ensured the safety and well-being of the stranded crew.
