For the swearing-in ceremony which is to be held 5th August Iran’s new president-elect, Ebrahim Raisi has invited India for the same, as per the sources have told The Indian Express.
To call on the president-elect, in the first in with external affair minister S Jaishankar, who had made a stopover on Wednesday in Tehran en route to Russia, Raisi was said to be very warm as per the sources. A personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Raisi was also handed over by Jaishankar.
For the oath-taking ceremony in Tehran, a decision shall be taken soon about which representative of the government of India shall go.
Along with the bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, incidentally, 5th August also marks the second anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 something which Iran had protested earlier.
With Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif, useful discussions on regional and global issues were held by Jaishankar on Wednesday. Resulting in a comprehensive political partnership in Afghanistan, the two stressed the need to strengthen intra Afghan dialogue, as reported by the Iranian media. A major role in the Afghan peace process which has witnessed a renewed momentum in the wake of the withdrawal of the United States forces on 11th September from Afghanistan has been played by Iran along with Russia.
