Counting on China to bring Russia to its senses: French President Emmanuel Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron is visiting China on a 3-day visit to convince China to bring peace between Ukraine and Russia.

Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, is now on a state visit to China with the objective of persuading Xi Jinping, his Chinese counterpart, to “bring Russia to its senses” about Moscow’s involvement in the conflict with Ukraine.

Macron is in China for a three-day state visit, and he has made it obvious that he is trying to persuade China not to assist Russia’s invasion of its neighbor. Macron’s goal is to prevent Beijing from supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

At a bilateral discussion in Beijing, Macron said to Xi, the head of state, “I know I can depend on you to bring Russia to its senses and everyone to the negotiating table.”

When the national anthems of both nations were playing, Xi welcomed Macron only minutes ago outside the Great Hall of the People, which is considered to be the political epicenter of China’s capital city.

“Major Role” Played by “Neutral Russia”

Over the course of his tour, Macron said that “Beijing can play a major role in finding a route to peace in the issue,” and he further went on to remark that he appreciated China’s “willingness to commit to a settlement.”

Notwithstanding the fact that China maintains its neutrality on the issue, Xi has not denounced the Russian invasion.

Xi recently traveled to Russia to reaffirm his partnership with Vladimir Putin, which has been characterized as an anti-Western front. Xi, on the other hand, has not talked on the phone with Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine.
