Casualties were feared as a blast hit a mosque next to Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry in Kabul on Wednesday, a leading television channel the Tolonews reported.

“A blast occurred at a mosque near the Ministry of Interior,” Tolonews quoted Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Nafi Takor as saying.

Nafi also noted that the mosque was outside the Interior Ministry compound where ordinary people and employees of the ministry often used to offer their prayers.

An investigation is underway, Nafi added.
