Ben Gurion International Airport has announced that Israeli airspace could reopen as early as Monday night (March 2, 2026) for civilian flights. However, operations will resume in a very limited and controlled format to prioritize safety.

The announcement comes after Israel’s airspace was closed to commercial traffic starting late last week due to security developments, including escalations involving Iran. This closure stranded tens of thousands of Israelis abroad—estimates suggest around 100,000 people—and led major airlines like El Al, Arkia, and Israir to suspend flights to and from Tel Aviv.

Foreign airlines have largely canceled services to Israel until at least early March (some through March 8 or later), and broader regional airspace closures in countries like Iran, Iraq, Syria, and parts of the Gulf continue to affect global routes.
