YouTube Music just got a long-awaited upgrade: you can now pause a song on your phone and pick it up later on your tablet or computer. without starting over. This new playback feature, available in the latest version of the app (version 8.26.51), makes switching between devices much smoother for music lovers.
Until now, YouTube Music users couldn’t easily continue a song across different devices, something Spotify users have been able to do for years. Spotify’s feature, called Spotify Connect, not only lets you resume music on another device but also lets you control what’s playing on one device from another. For example, you can play music from your phone and pause or skip tracks from your computer, or even a smart speaker, without stopping the music.
With YouTube Music’s update, a new “Resume” button shows up in the app’s “Speed Dial” section. This is the place where your most-played songs, albums, or playlists appear. You’ll also notice small progress bars on those items, showing how far you got while listening on a different device. When you tap on one, you can resume from exactly where you left off.
It’s a helpful improvement and definitely a step in the right direction. But compared to Spotify’s smoother and more flexible system, YouTube Music still has room to grow. The Resume feature is brand new, so it’s not as polished or powerful as what Spotify offers, especially for people who use smart speakers or regularly switch between devices.
Still, for fans of YouTube Music, this is good news. The platform is becoming more user-friendly and building features that help people enjoy music without interruptions. If Google keeps improving things, YouTube Music may one day catch up to, or even surpass, its biggest rivals. For now, the update is a small but meaningful upgrade in making the app more useful on the go.
