Yoo Ah In has been dealing with a long legal battle related to drug abuse charges. After going through two rounds of trials, he was found guilty and received a sentence that included both prison time and probation. Not satisfied with the outcome, he filed an appeal, and according to Korean media outlet Sports Chosun, the final decision in his case will be made public on July 3, 2025.
Legal officials confirmed on June 17 that the Supreme Court’s First Division, led by Chief Justice Ma Yong Ju, is set to announce its ruling on that day at 10:10 AM KST (6:40 AM IST). The case reached the Supreme Court in March this year and has been under review by the First Division since April, with judges carefully examining the legal arguments from both sides.
Yoo Ah In was officially charged in October 2023. The allegations included illegally using the anesthetic propofol, obtaining prescription sleeping pills under a fake name on 44 different occasions, and smoking marijuana while in the United States. Prosecutors also accused him of trying to hide or destroy evidence to cover up his drug use.
In the first trial held on September 3, 2024, he was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 2 million KRW. He was taken into custody immediately after the ruling. However, both the defense and prosecution appealed the decision. In the second trial on February 18, 2025, his sentence was reduced to one year in prison, suspended with two years of probation, meaning he didn’t have to serve additional jail time unless he violated probation. He was released after spending about five months in detention.
Following the easing of his legal situation, Yoo Ah In’s previously delayed films finally made it to theaters. The Match was released on March 26, and Hi.5 followed on May 30. Now, with the Supreme Court preparing to announce its final decision, the outcome could determine whether his recent return to the public eye continues or gets cut short once again.
