In One Piece, Luffy\u2019s Gear 5, also called Nika, has been making waves, but now Jewelry Bonney has joined the fun. Fans lovingly call her Nika form \u201cJoy Girl.\u201d She first shows this during the Egghead arc, fighting alongside Luffy against St. Saturn. Joy Girl isn\u2019t an official name from Oda, but it stuck among fans. Don\u2019t mix her up with Joy Boy, they\u2019re completely different characters.<\/p>\n
Bonney can become Nika thanks to her Toshi Toshi no Mi, or Age-Age Devil Fruit. Everyone thought her power only let her change her age, but it also has a secret ability called Distortion Future. This lets her access a future version of herself, any way she imagines it. When she was escaping Alpha, she used this to make her tiny hand huge, like Luffy\u2019s Gear 3, and punched the enemy.<\/p>\n
Later, during the Egghead arc, she wanted to keep up with Luffy in his Gear 5 form. Inspired by Luffy\u2019s freedom, Bonney used her future powers to become the freest version of herself. That\u2019s how she became the second Nika, Joy Girl.<\/p>\n
In the manga, Bonney first becomes Joy Girl in chapter 1118. The anime hasn\u2019t shown it yet, but fans can expect it in Episode 1151, titled \u201cThe Dream I Envisioned With Dad! Bonney\u2019s Free Future,\u201d airing November 30, 2025.<\/p>\n
Bonney\u2019s Joy Girl form does have limits. She can\u2019t stay in this future form for long because it takes a lot of energy. After helping Luffy in the fight against St. Marcus Mars and St. Saturn, she returns to her normal kid form.
