Tron: Ares<\/em> is nearing the end of its theatrical run in the United States, and the numbers are disappointing. It has now joined Leonardo DiCaprio\u2019s One Battle After Another<\/em> and Rachel Zegler\u2019s Snow White<\/em> as one of the year\u2019s biggest underperformers. Expectations were high, but the film simply has not earned enough to justify its large production budget.<\/p>\n

The movie has collected one hundred thirty seven point four million dollars worldwide. Out of that, seventy one point two million came from North America and sixty six point one million from overseas markets. It opened with a modest thirty three point two million dollars during its first weekend, and since then, the earnings have steadily dropped. Over the last few weekends, it has been making around one million dollars. The fifth weekend brought in only one point eight million dollars, falling forty one percent from the previous week\u2019s three million.<\/p>\n

The film also saw a big cut in theater count, losing six hundred five screens in the United States in that same weekend. It now plays in fewer than two thousand theaters. This likely means the film will no longer cross one million dollars again in a single weekend.<\/p>\n

While Tron: Ares<\/em> recently moved ahead of One Battle After Another<\/em> in domestic earnings, it still sits far behind Snow White<\/em>. Snow White<\/em> has eighty seven point two million dollars from the United States. Tron: Ares<\/em>, at seventy one point two million, is about sixteen million behind. That is a twenty two point three percent difference. Globally, the gap is even wider because both Snow White<\/em> and One Battle After Another<\/em> performed better overseas.<\/p>\n

Here is where the numbers currently stand. Tron: Ares<\/em> has seventy one point two million dollars domestically, sixty six point one million internationally, and one hundred thirty seven point four million worldwide. Snow White<\/em> has eighty seven point two million domestically, one hundred eighteen point four million internationally, and two hundred five point six million worldwide.<\/p>\n

Early predictions say Tron: Ares<\/em> will likely finish its North American run somewhere between seventy five and eighty million dollars. This means it will still fall short of Snow White<\/em> by a noticeable amount. And in worldwide earnings, it does not come close.<\/p>\n

All three movies share the same story. Big budgets. High expectations. Weak audience response. Both Tron: Ares<\/em> and Snow White<\/em> come from Disney, which puts even more pressure on the studio.
