She and her husband, John Legend, were expecting a baby boy when, at 20 weeks, Teigen was diagnosed with a partial placental abruption. This meant the placenta detached from the uterus, cutting off oxygen and nutrients to the baby and putting Teigen\u2019s life at risk. Sadly, the pregnancy had to be terminated.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"591\" data-end=\"925\">In a recent episode of her Self Conscious podcast, Teigen explained how the loss left her body \u201cstuck\u201d and caused her to gain about 40 pounds. Feeling frustrated with her low self-esteem, she decided to try Ozempic. She took the medication for a year and, though she noticed no change at first, it eventually helped her lose weight.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"927\" data-end=\"1173\">Teigen said losing the weight had a surprising impact on her mental health. It helped her stop feeling trapped in sadness and depression caused by seeing her pregnant belly without a baby. She also felt freed from unhealthy thoughts about food.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1175\" data-end=\"1466\">Sharing the podcast on Instagram, Teigen encouraged openness about the drug, calling it a \u201cdirty little buzzword\u201d that people often judge.
