The film\u2019s budget is reported at $200 million, which means once it crosses $500 million globally, it will finally break even. The question now is how much profit it can make beyond that.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"736\" data-end=\"1148\">The reboot has already beaten some big names at the box office. It has outgrossed classics and hits like <em data-start=\"841\" data-end=\"877\">Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade<\/em>, <em data-start=\"879\" data-end=\"896\">It: Chapter Two<\/em>, <em data-start=\"898\" data-end=\"917\">Godzilla vs. Kong<\/em>, <em data-start=\"919\" data-end=\"931\">The Matrix<\/em>, <em data-start=\"933\" data-end=\"944\">Gladiator<\/em>, and the very first <em data-start=\"965\" data-end=\"986\">Mission: Impossible<\/em>. Its latest victory is edging past Tim Burton\u2019s <em data-start=\"1035\" data-end=\"1070\">Charlie and the Chocolate Factory<\/em> (2005), which starred Johnny Depp and sits at an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1150\" data-end=\"1184\">Here\u2019s how the numbers stack up:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1185\" data-end=\"1471\">\n<li data-start=\"1185\" data-end=\"1319\">\n<p data-start=\"1187\" data-end=\"1319\"><em data-start=\"1187\" data-end=\"1216\">Fantastic Four: First Steps<\/em> has made $252.9 million in North America and $222.2 million overseas, for a total of $475.1 million.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1320\" data-end=\"1471\">\n<p data-start=\"1322\" data-end=\"1471\"><em data-start=\"1322\" data-end=\"1357\">Charlie and the Chocolate Factory<\/em> earned $206.4 million domestically and $268.5 million internationally, finishing with $474.9 million worldwide.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1473\" data-end=\"1831\">That tiny margin puts <em data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1508\">First Steps<\/em> just ahead of Burton\u2019s fantasy film. Next in its sights are <em data-start=\"1569\" data-end=\"1604\">Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania<\/em> ($476.1 million), <em data-start=\"1623\" data-end=\"1646\">Venom: The Last Dance<\/em> ($479 million), <em data-start=\"1663\" data-end=\"1695\">Rise of the Planet of the Apes<\/em> ($481.8 million), and <em data-start=\"1718\" data-end=\"1739\">Saving Private Ryan<\/em> ($482.4 million). Each milestone is within touching distance, though progress has slowed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1833\" data-end=\"2116\">As of now, the film is the ninth highest-grossing movie of 2025. To climb higher, it would need to overtake <em data-start=\"1941\" data-end=\"1984\">Mission: Impossible \u2013 The Final Reckoning<\/em>, which has already raked in $597.6 million. That\u2019s about $122 million ahead, making it an unlikely target given the current pace.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2118\" data-end=\"2555\">Directed by Matt Shakman, <em data-start=\"2144\" data-end=\"2157\">First Steps<\/em> leans into a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic style. The story follows Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they gain powers after a cosmic mishap.
