Fans had to wait a really long time for \u2018Godfather of Harlem\u2019<\/em> Season 4 to come out. The third season ended way back in March 2023, and after more than two years of waiting, the new season finally premiered in June 2025. But as the saying goes, good things take time!<\/p>\n

The show stars Forest Whitaker as Bumpy Johnson, a powerful and complicated gangster trying to take control of Harlem in the 1960s. Season 4 dives deeper into Bumpy\u2019s fight against New York\u2019s Mafia families, as they all battle for power and territory. It also introduces a new and important character, Frank Lucas, played by Rome Flynn. (If that name sounds familiar, it\u2019s because he\u2019s the same gangster played by Denzel Washington in American Gangster, <\/em>definitely a movie worth rewatching if you\u2019re a fan!)<\/p>\n

Now that the fourth season has wrapped up, fans are starting to wonder what\u2019s next. Will there be a fifth season? Is Bumpy\u2019s story over, or is there more drama coming? So far, there hasn\u2019t been an official announcement from MGM+ about a renewal, but people are hopeful.<\/p>\n

In an interview from May 2025, Brancato told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> that Season 4 had a strong premiere and performed really well. That\u2019s usually a good sign when it comes to renewing a show. He said, \u201cThey tell me this show premiered very, very well this season,\u201d which gives him hope that Season 5 will get the green light. But, of course, nothing is certain until the network makes it official.<\/p>\n

Brancato also explained that Bumpy Johnson\u2019s real-life story still has more to tell. Historically, Bumpy died in 1968, and in the show, we\u2019re currently in the year 1966. That means there\u2019s still room for the character\u2019s journey to continue, depending on Forest Whitaker\u2019s availability and whether MGM+ wants to keep going.<\/p>\n

So while we don\u2019t have a solid answer yet, the signs are promising. And considering how Season 4 ended (without giving spoilers!), it really feels like there\u2019s more story coming. Fans can stay hopeful that Season 5 is on the way.<\/p>\n
