The thing is: Season 3 hasn’t even aired yet! It’s not coming until July. So why tell everyone now that it’s wrapping up in two years?

Well, that’s where things get a little more interesting.

At a recent event at the Tribeca Film Festival, the show’s co-creator Akiva Goldsman may have dropped a not-so-subtle clue that while Strange New Worlds might be ending, it could actually lead directly into a reboot or reimagining of the original Star Trek series, yep, the one that started it all back in the 1960s.

Here’s what Goldsman said:

“Right now [the characters] are in mid-stage development. How do they become who they are? What happens to some of them? Those are questions that we knew we needed to answer and promised to answer. And so that’s our five-year plan. And then we run into TOS. [Switching to a conspiratorial tone] But they’re not dying. And we have those sets…”

So what Goldsman seems to be hinting at is that once Strange New Worlds ends its five-season run, the timeline will basically bump up against the beginning of The Original Series. Which means they could just keep going, but with a revamped version of the classic series using the new cast they’ve already introduced.

And honestly, the timing kind of makes sense. Next year is Star Trek’s 60th anniversary, and there’s no movie on the horizon. Starfleet Academy is coming in 2026, but that’s a whole different vibe. What would make a huge splash? Launching a fresh take on the adventures of Captain Kirk, Spock, and the original crew aboard the USS Enterprise.

They’ve already introduced a bunch of those characters in Strange New Worlds:

Spock (Ethan Peck)

Captain Kirk (Paul Wesley)

Uhura, Scotty, Nurse Chapel, and Dr. M’Benga are all there too.
All that’s missing? Bones and Sulu, and they could be easily added.

But here’s where things get really wild.

William Shatner, the original Captain Kirk himself, recently revealed that Paramount reached out to him about something Trek-related. He’s 93, and sure, his Kirk character “died” in Star Trek: Generations, but Picard Season 3 low-key teased that he might still be alive somehow.

So imagine this: a new series where elderly Kirk is narrating or reflecting on his younger years as Enterprise captain, and we see those younger versions played by the current Strange New Worlds cast. That would give us an excuse to bring Shatner back, tie everything together, and celebrate Star Trek’s legacy in a massive way.

This kind of show, a TOS reboot told through a modern lens, would definitely draw attention, new fans, and media buzz. In the world of streaming, that’s what counts. Long, ongoing seasons don’t really help subscriber growth the way shiny new shows do. So yeah, it sucks for fans who hoped for a 6th or 7th season of Strange New Worlds, but a classic reboot could be the bigger picture plan.

So, while the journey of Strange New Worlds might end after five years, the Enterprise itself? She might just be gearing up for a brand new mission.

Paramount+ just dropped a bit of a surprise on Star Trek fans, they announced that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds…

[68
909,29835,19465
post-76973","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tv","tag-star-trek","tag-star-trek-strange-new-worlds","tag-star-trek-the-original-series
["GET
