The first season had just 10 episodes, but it was such a hit that Fox didn’t even wait for the season finale to air before announcing a second season, this time a full 22 episodes.

The show is actually based on an Italian series called Doc – Nelle tue mani, which itself is inspired by the real-life story of an Italian doctor. In the U.S. version, the main character is Dr. Amy Larsen (played by Molly Parker), who is the head of internal medicine at a hospital. Her life takes a shocking turn when she’s in a serious car accident and loses all memories from the past eight years.

This isn’t just about forgetting birthdays or where she parked her car, Dr. Larsen has no memory of huge life events. For example, she doesn’t remember that she got divorced from her husband, who still works at the hospital with her. She also forgot that she started dating someone else… who also works there. So now, her personal life is a confusing mess.

To top it off, because she can’t remember eight years of medical experience, she’s not qualified to keep doing her high-level job. That means she has to go back and basically start over as an intern, learning everything again from scratch, while working side by side with people who once reported to her.

It’s the kind of intense, emotional, and dramatic story that pulls people in, which is why Doc quickly found a fan base. Season 1 ended on a big emotional cliffhanger, so naturally, fans are eager to find out what happens next. Let’s take a look at what’s known so far about Season 2 of Doc on Fox.

Doc Season 2 expected release date

Fox hasn’t shared the exact date when Doc Season 2 will start, but they did confirm that it’s getting a fall premiere, not a mid-season one like Season 1. That makes sense, since Season 2 will have 22 episodes, there wouldn’t be enough time to air them all between January and May.

So, while there’s no official date yet, it’s safe to guess that Doc Season 2 will likely kick off sometime in September or October.

Also, the show is keeping its regular Tuesday night time slot at 9/8c. It’ll air right after another Fox drama, Murder in a Small Town, which will start the night off.

Doc Season 2 cast details

Barbie Kligman is the main person in charge of the Doc show. She’s written for lots of popular TV shows like Law & Order: SVU, Everwood, The Vampire Diaries, Private Practice, and Magnum P.I. That means she really knows how to create emotional, dramatic stories. She helped guide Doc through Season 1 and will most likely continue doing the same for Season 2.

So far, there’s no news about any of the main actors leaving the show. All the important characters you saw in Season 1 should still be around in the next season.

But there is some good news for two actors who had smaller parts before, they’ll now have much bigger roles in Season 2.

One of them is Patrick Walker, who plays Dr. TJ Coleman. In the story, TJ is a young doctor who used to admire and learn from Dr. Larsen before her accident. Now, we’ll get to see more of him and how their relationship grows or changes.

The other is Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, who plays Katie Hamda. Katie is the daughter of Dr. Larsen and her ex-husband, who also works at the hospital. In Season 1, she showed up from time to time, but in Season 2, her role will be much bigger. That means we’ll probably see more emotional moments between her and her mom, especially since Dr. Larsen forgot so much of their past.

Doc main cast

Molly Parker as Dr. Amy Larsen

Omar Metwally as Dr. Michael Hamda

Jon-Michael Ecker as Dr. Jake Heller

Amirah Vann as Dr. Gina Walker

Anya Banerjee as Dr. Sonya Maitra

Patrick Walker as Dr. TJ Coleman

Charlotte Fountain-Jardim as Katia Hamda

Scott Wolf as Dr. Richard Miller

Doc Season 2 plot speculations

The original Italian version of Doc might not be very helpful in guessing what will happen in Season 2 of the American version. That’s because the second season of the Italian show was mostly about the COVID-19 pandemic and how it affected the hospital and the staff. It’s very unlikely that the U.S. version will focus on that, since it’s moving in a different direction.

However, there’s still one interesting idea from the Italian show that Doc on Fox might use. In the Italian version, there’s a big power struggle at the hospital. The main character, who also lost his memory, has to fight to get his old job back as the head of internal medicine. That could be something we see with Dr. Larsen too, maybe she’ll try to prove herself and earn her top position again.

Also, it seems like we haven’t seen the last of Dr. Miller, even though he made some big mistakes in Season 1. There’s a chance he’ll be back in Season 2 with his own storyline. Maybe he’ll also have to rebuild his career, just like Dr. Larsen did after her accident. That could make things even more dramatic at the hospital.

Where Doc Season 1 left off

Season 1 of Doc ended with a lot of big twists and drama.

First, Dr. Amy Larsen finally learns the truth about a serious case from the past: it turns out Dr. Miller was the one responsible for the death of a patient named Bill Dixon. Because of this, Miller loses his job and also gets his medical license taken away, which means he can no longer work as a doctor.

Then things get even more complicated in Amy’s personal life. She has a secret boyfriend, Dr. Heller, but he ends up walking in on her while she’s having a romantic moment, yes, a small make-out session, with her ex-husband, Dr. Hamda.

This surprise moment causes a lot of emotional mess. Dr. Heller is clearly upset, and so is Nora, who is Dr. Hamda’s current wife. So now, there’s a tangled love triangle (maybe even a square) between all of them, and it’s not going to be easy for anyone.

Where to watch Doc

You can watch all of Doc Season 1 on Hulu.
