Cast as Marshall in 2005, Segel played the character for nine seasons, which became a defining part of his career.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"387\" data-end=\"857\">On <em data-start=\"390\" data-end=\"416\">The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s<\/em> Awards Chatter podcast, the 45-year-old actor revealed that while the sitcom brought him fame and financial success, it was emotionally and physically draining to juggle. After his role in <em data-start=\"606\" data-end=\"618\">Knocked Up<\/em> (2007), Segel was inspired by Judd Apatow to write screenplays, leading him to pen <em data-start=\"702\" data-end=\"729\">Forgetting Sarah Marshall<\/em> during <em data-start=\"737\" data-end=\"744\">HIMYM<\/em>\u2019s first season. The 2008 film was a commercial hit, earning over $100 million and boosting Segel\u2019s movie career.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"859\" data-end=\"1285\">Despite the creative fulfillment, Segel described a grueling schedule: spending most of the year filming <em data-start=\"964\" data-end=\"971\">HIMYM<\/em> and then using his four-month hiatus to work on movies he\u2019d written. Though rewarding, the relentless pace left him exhausted and gradually diminished his enjoyment. He said, \u201cI was getting a little tired and I was starting to not enjoy myself so much.
