With filming underway for <em>Avengers: Doomsday<\/em>, Robert Downey Jr. gave fans a sneak peek behind the scenes\u2014and it\u2019s sending the internet into a frenzy. The actor, who was the original face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared a fun post on Instagram on May 2, 2025, showing off some of the cast members from the highly-anticipated superhero ensemble.<\/p>\n<p>In the post, Downey Jr. dropped a series of photos, starting with a group shot where he\u2019s dressed in all black, surrounded by other actors from the MCU. He\u2019s right in the center, fist raised, clearly in high spirits. Fans immediately spotted some familiar faces in the mix\u2014Chris Hemsworth, his longtime Marvel buddy from the <em>Avengers: Endgame<\/em> days, and Channing Tatum, who made waves recently as Gambit in <em>Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Also joining the group were Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), and several new faces making their Marvel debut: Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Vanessa Kirby, Winston Duke, and Anthony Mackie. The vibe was casual, celebratory, and full of Marvel energy.<\/p>\n<p>Downey Jr. captioned the post with: \u201cJust wow!!! Dinner and a show with the Old Avengers. So cool, fresh, and deep. Big congrats. #thunderbolts\u201d \u2014 hinting that they\u2019d gathered to watch Marvel\u2019s latest release, <em>Thunderbolts<\/em>, which can be seen playing in the background of the final image in the carousel.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s even more thrilling is the news that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU\u2014not as Iron Man, the hero we all know and love\u2014but in a brand-new villainous role. He\u2019ll be taking on the iconic Marvel baddie Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, in <em>Avengers: Doomsday<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, this next chapter is shaping up to be one of the most epic Avengers films yet.
