In his new memoir, <em data-start=\"343\" data-end=\"359\">My Next Breath<\/em>, the actor shares deeply personal stories from his healing journey, including some surreal side effects from his pain medication\u2014like full-blown hallucinations of <strong data-start=\"523\" data-end=\"537\">Jamie Foxx<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"940\">Renner, 54, writes that while he was on strong meds like opioids and benzodiazepines, his mind started playing tricks on him. At one point, he was so out of it that he believed Jamie Foxx was regularly visiting his room. \u201cJamie Foxx was in my room quite a bit (he wasn\u2019t),\u201d he wrote. \u201cWe talked about this and that\u2026 we went snowmobiling together (we didn\u2019t \u2014 there\u2019s no snow in Southern California).\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"942\" data-end=\"1350\">As wild as those moments sound, Renner reflects on them with humor and warmth. He says those imagined conversations\u2014even though they never happened\u2014felt real and comforting at the time. In fact, knowing that Foxx also went through a recent health scare of his own made the whole thing feel weirdly meaningful. Renner even joked that he hoped he had somehow \u201cbeen there for\u201d Foxx in a spiritual or cosmic way.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1352\" data-end=\"1770\">These vivid hallucinations started while Renner was recovering at home after being crushed by a 14,000-pound snowplow on <strong data-start=\"1473\" data-end=\"1496\">New Year\u2019s Day 2023<\/strong>. Once he switched from IV drugs to oral painkillers, the side effects kicked in big time. His family\u2014especially his mom and sister, Kym\u2014would hear him talking out loud to no one and just chalk it up to the meds. \u201cJeremy\u2019s just tripping right now,\u201d he remembers them saying.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1772\" data-end=\"2211\">Eventually, Renner decided he\u2019d had enough. He wanted his mind back and chose to stop all pain meds cold turkey\u2014<strong data-start=\"1884\" data-end=\"1900\">a risky move<\/strong> and definitely not what doctors recommended. The withdrawal was brutal. He describes <strong data-start=\"1986\" data-end=\"2011\">crying uncontrollably<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2026\">shivering<\/strong>, and doing whatever he could to stay calm for nearly two days. While he occasionally took small doses to ease the transition, he says once he pushed through, things started to improve.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2213\" data-end=\"2562\">What stands out in <em data-start=\"2232\" data-end=\"2248\">My Next Breath<\/em> isn\u2019t just the intense pain and bizarre hallucinations\u2014it\u2019s Renner\u2019s honesty and determination. He doesn\u2019t shy away from how hard it was, but he also finds room to laugh at the weirdest parts.
