Andrew Garfield might be ready to swing back into the Spider-Verse \u2014 but only if things get seriously<\/em> strange.<\/p>\n

At the Middle East Film & Comic Con, the Amazing Spider-Man<\/em> star made it clear he\u2019s not interested in suiting up again just for another round of blockbuster brawls or multiversal mayhem. No, if he\u2019s coming back, it has to be weird. Like, really<\/em> weird.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would have to be very weird,\u201d Garfield told Entertainment Tonight<\/em>. \u201cI would like to do something very strange. Something very unique, and offbeat and surprising \u2014 kind of like the creative freedom they have with the animated Spider-Verse<\/em> movies.\u201d<\/p>\n

So forget the formulaic superhero sequel \u2014 Garfield wants something bold, experimental, and just a little bit bizarre. Think more existential-crisis Spider-Man<\/em> and less web-slinging franchise filler<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time Garfield has toyed with the idea of returning to the Spidey suit. After all, his surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home<\/em> in 2021 \u2014 a multiverse love letter to Spider-fans \u2014 reignited global appreciation for his version of the wall-crawler. The film grossed a staggering $1.9 billion worldwide, and fans still haven\u2019t stopped begging for The Amazing Spider-Man 3<\/em>.<\/p>\n

But Garfield\u2019s approach to the role has never been strictly commercial. In an earlier interview with Esquire<\/em>, he emphasized that he hadn\u2019t fully shut the door on Peter Parker, but that any return would need to carry cultural or emotional weight. \u201cI would 100% come back if it was the right thing, if it\u2019s additive to the culture, if there\u2019s a great concept or something that hasn\u2019t been done before,\u201d he explained. \u201cSomething that\u2019s unique and odd and exciting, and that you can sink your teeth into.\u201d<\/p>\n

And make no mistake: he still loves the character. \u201cIt brings joy,\u201d he told the magazine. \u201cIf part of what I bring is joy, then I\u2019m joyful in return.\u201d<\/p>\n

That said, Garfield is also well aware of the game he\u2019s playing. After gaslighting an entire fandom about his role in No Way Home<\/em>, he knows people take his denials with a grain of salt. \u201cI\u2019m gonna disappoint you,\u201d he said with a grin to GQ<\/em>. \u201cYeah, no. But I know no one\u2019s gonna trust anything I say from now on.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, is a psychedelic, art-house Spider-Man movie in our future? One where Peter Parker questions his existence between dimensions, or maybe even breaks the fourth wall while battling surreal villains from the far corners of the multiverse?<\/p>\n

If Garfield has any say in it \u2014 and Marvel\u2019s feeling adventurous \u2014 don\u2019t count it out.<\/p>\n
