In the aftermath of The White Lotus<\/em> season finale, fans were left questioning one particular moment: Why did Lochlan (played by Sam Nivola) use a dirty blender to make a protein shake that almost poisoned him? During his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon<\/em> on April 6th, Nivola addressed the widely discussed scene.<\/p>\n

Fallon went straight to the point, asking why Lochlan would make a shake in such a questionable blender. Nivola, laughing off the question, admitted he\u2019d already been asked that same question \u201cprobably 1000 times\u201d since the finale aired.<\/p>\n

Nivola explained that Lochlan didn\u2019t perceive the blender as dangerous. \u201cI was expecting that Saxon had made a protein shake in it,\u201d he said. Lochlan thought there was leftover protein from his brother Saxon (played by Patrick Schwarzenegger), and he figured a little extra protein wouldn\u2019t hurt. He defended his character by saying, \u201cI\u2019m not that much of an idiot,\u201d implying that Lochlan wasn\u2019t intentionally being reckless.<\/p>\n

The actor further explained that Lochlan trusted his older brother Saxon, which made him believe the blender was safe, even if it wasn\u2019t cleaned properly. It wasn\u2019t a lack of awareness, Nivola suggested, but rather a misplaced confidence in his brother\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n

Still, fans have raised valid questions. If Lochlan had been drinking Saxon\u2019s shakes regularly, why didn\u2019t he notice that this one smelled or looked different? The shake wasn\u2019t just a leftover protein drink\u2014it was a pi\u00f1a colada laced with bad coconut milk, which led to the poisoning.<\/p>\n

In addition, viewers questioned why Lochlan\u2019s father, Timothy Ratliff (played by Jason Isaacs), didn\u2019t clean the blender after preparing the toxic drink the night before. His failure to rinse it out almost led to a tragic mistake, something that could have been easily avoided with just a quick cleanup.<\/p>\n

While some fans may have viewed this as a moment of typical teen carelessness, Nivola and the writers presented it as a misunderstanding rooted in Lochlan\u2019s misplaced trust in his older brother.
