It\u2019s that time of year again, the college basketball transfer portal<\/strong> is buzzing, and it\u2019s been nonstop action for weeks. Teams across the country are hustling to strengthen their rosters, and programs like Michigan, Louisville, Kentucky<\/strong>, and Indiana<\/strong> are leading the pack, pulling in top talent and building impressive squads for next season. But even for schools that haven\u2019t made huge moves yet, there\u2019s still time to put together a solid class. The offseason frenzy is in full gear \u2014 and it\u2019s only going to get wilder until the portal officially closes.<\/p>\n

One school that\u2019s feeling the heat this offseason? The Kansas Jayhawks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Kansas had a surprisingly rough ride last season. They started off looking like championship contenders but eventually dropped so far they ended up with a No. 7 seed<\/strong> in the NCAA Tournament \u2014 a huge slide that nobody really saw coming.<\/p>\n

Things got so rocky that even long-time head coach Bill Self<\/strong> admitted the team needed a break from each other. After a particularly painful road loss to BYU<\/strong>, Self didn\u2019t hold back.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m talked out. We need to get away from each other,\u201d he said bluntly. \u201cI thought this would be a great opportunity to do some team bonding. But it hasn\u2019t been.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, it got that<\/em> bad.<\/p>\n

The mid-season collapse sparked rumors that Self might retire<\/strong>, but so far, nothing\u2019s come of those whispers. He\u2019s still in the driver\u2019s seat \u2014 for now.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Jayhawks lost a key name to the portal on April 1<\/strong>, when Rylan Griffen<\/strong> decided to transfer. Griffen came in with high expectations and was considered a big pickup, but his season didn\u2019t quite live up to the hype. Some analysts think that might be more about how he was used than his actual performance.<\/p>\n

College basketball expert Fran Fraschilla<\/strong> chimed in with his take, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m seeing where Rylan Griffen was \u2018misused\u2019 by KUHoops and that he\u2019ll be great next year at \u2013 -. Bill Self has \u2018misused\u2019 very few players in 22 years. Jayhawks were desperate for outside shooting last year. Seemed like a good kid. Wish him well.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So what\u2019s next for Griffen? He\u2019s already taking visits \u2014 one of them being Kentucky<\/strong> \u2014 and could be heading back to the SEC<\/strong>, where he previously played for Alabama<\/strong>. He\u2019s a solid three-point shooter, and there\u2019s still plenty of potential for him to shine under a new system.<\/p>\n

As for Kansas? They\u2019ve got work to do \u2014 but with the portal still open and Bill Self still on board, don\u2019t count them out just yet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
