The Indianapolis Colts have been busy beefing up their defense lately, especially their secondary\u2014the part of the defense that deals with stopping passes. They\u2019ve already made headlines by signing safety Cam Bynum<\/strong> and cornerback Charvarius Ward<\/strong>, both solid additions that should help the team shut down opposing quarterbacks.<\/p>\n

Colts General Manager Chris Ballard<\/strong> had promised to be more aggressive in free agency this year, and so far, he\u2019s walking the talk. But some NFL insiders think Ballard might not be done just yet.<\/p>\n

One name floating around? Jaire Alexander<\/strong>, a star cornerback currently with the Green Bay Packers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to Ian Valentino from The 33rd Team<\/em>, the Colts would be a great fit if Alexander were to become available\u2014but there\u2019s a catch<\/strong>. Alexander is talented, no doubt, but he\u2019s been injured a lot lately<\/strong>, and he comes with a huge contract<\/strong>\u2014we\u2019re talking about a four-year, $84 million deal, with massive salary hits of nearly $25 million in 2025<\/strong> and $27 million in 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That kind of price tag makes a trade pretty unlikely unless the Packers were willing to let him go for a bargain\u2014maybe some second or third-round draft picks. Even then, the Colts would probably prefer to wait and see if Green Bay cuts him<\/strong> instead of giving up valuable draft picks.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s not just the money. Alexander has only played seven games in each of the last two seasons<\/strong>\u2014that\u2019s less than half a season\u2014and has only played a full season once in the last four years. Still, when he\u2019s healthy, he\u2019s a top-tier player. Over his last 34 games, he\u2019s allowed just a 80.3 passer rating<\/strong> and 7.3 yards per target<\/strong>, meaning quarterbacks don\u2019t have an easy time throwing in his direction.<\/p>\n

So, could Jaire Alexander be the next splashy move for Indy? Maybe\u2014but only if the timing (and the price) is right.
