Leave it to Ryan Gosling to steal the spotlight with a laugh\u2014even when he\u2019s playing an astronaut trying to save Earth.<\/strong> The Barbie<\/em> and The Fall Guy<\/em> star was in peak charming-and-hilarious mode as he premiered the trailer for his upcoming film Project Hail Mary<\/em> at CinemaCon, and let\u2019s just say: the \u2018Kenergy\u2019 might be gone, but the comedy chops are still fully charged.<\/p>\n

Directed by the dynamic duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie<\/em>, 21 Jump Street<\/em>), the sci-fi flick is based on Andy Weir\u2019s bestselling novel of the same name (yep, the guy who wrote The Martian<\/em>). Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a middle school science teacher who gets reluctantly<\/em> drafted into a do-or-die space mission. Basically, he\u2019s a regular dude turned unexpected hero\u2014and he\u2019s really not thrilled about it.<\/p>\n

While introducing the trailer, Gosling couldn\u2019t resist poking fun at his own character. \u201cThe astronauts die in space? Who is gonna sign up for that?\u201d he joked to the crowd. He followed it up with a classic one-liner: \u201cI put the \u2018not\u2019 in astronaut. I\u2019ve never done a spacewalk\u2014I can\u2019t even moonwalk.\u201d<\/em> (Somewhere, Neil Armstrong is giggling.)<\/p>\n

He also shared that the audience at Amazon MGM Studios\u2019 presentation were the first to see the trailer\u2026 after his mom, of course. (Priorities!)<\/p>\n

The trailer, set to the emotional pull of Harry Styles\u2019 Sign of the Times<\/em>, opens with Gosling teaching a bunch of students before he\u2019s approached by Sandra H\u00fcller\u2019s character, Eva Stratt, who drops the bombshell: Earth is in deep trouble and it\u2019s going to take a solo cosmic mission to fix it.<\/p>\n

Even though Project Hail Mary<\/em> is backed by a streaming giant, Gosling made it clear that this one\u2019s designed for the big screen. \u201cWe tried playing it on a TV\u2026 it didn\u2019t even fit,\u201d he quipped, confirming the studio\u2019s full-blown theatrical ambitions.<\/p>\n

Mike Hopkins, the head honcho at Amazon and MGM Studios, joined him on stage and backed that up\u2014this is their first time at CinemaCon, and they\u2019re here to make a splash.<\/p>\n

Oh, and did we mention Gosling\u2019s also producing the film? He\u2019s teamed up with Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Aditya Sood, Rachel O\u2019Connor, and even the author himself, Andy Weir.<\/p>\n

Project <\/span>Hail <\/span>Mary<\/span><\/em> is <\/span>officially <\/span>blasting <\/span>off <\/span>into <\/span>theaters <\/span>on <\/span>March <\/span>20<\/span>, <\/span>2026<\/span><\/strong>\u2014<\/span>so <\/span>mark <\/span>your <\/span>calendars<\/span>, <\/span>space <\/span>nerds <\/span>and <\/span>Ryan <\/span>Gosling <\/span>stans <\/span>alike<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
