Strands<\/strong> is the newest word puzzle from The New York Times<\/em>, and if you\u2019re a fan of games like Wordle<\/em>, Connections<\/em>, or the Mini Crossword<\/em>, you\u2019re probably going to love this one too. But don\u2019t be fooled \u2014 Strands is a twisty, brain-tickling upgrade of the classic word search<\/strong>, and it can get pretty tricky.<\/p>\n

Some puzzles are easy breezy, but others? They\u2019ll have you staring at your screen wondering if you\u2019ve suddenly forgotten how words work. And hey \u2014 there\u2019s no shame in needing a little help. How to play NYT Strands<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The goal in Strands is to find \u201ctheme words\u201d<\/strong> hidden in a grid of letters. These aren\u2019t just random words \u2014 they all connect to a certain topic or idea (a theme).<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how it works:<\/p>\n

    Tap or drag<\/strong> across the grid to form words.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    When you get a correct theme word, the letters light up blue<\/strong> and disappear from the board.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Found a real word that isn\u2019t<\/em> part of the theme? No worries \u2014 every three valid \u201cnon-theme\u201d words<\/strong> you find (at least four letters long) earns you a hint<\/strong>. That hint will unscramble a theme word and give you a boost.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    One more thing: every letter in the puzzle will be used once and only once<\/strong> to form the theme words. No leftovers!<\/p>\n

    Each Strands puzzle includes one special word called the spangram<\/strong>. It sums up the whole theme and stretches across the board, connecting two opposite sides. When you find it, it lights up yellow<\/strong> \u2014 kind of like a bonus round clue.<\/p>\n
