Yellowjackets<\/strong> director Ben Semanoff finally shared some insight into that jaw-dropping character death at the end of Season 3, Episode 9 \u2014 and fans are still reeling. In a shocking twist, Van (played by Lauren Ambrose), who had already narrowly escaped death in the previous episode after a brutal ER trip, didn\u2019t make it out this time. Despite dodging death again and again for three whole seasons, she was unexpectedly killed by Melissa (played by Hilary Swank), a character we only just learned was still alive in the present-day timeline.<\/p>\n

In a chat with ScreenRant<\/em>, Semanoff broke down what led to this wild moment and what Melissa\u2019s role really means in the bigger picture of the show. According to him, Melissa isn\u2019t just a random threat \u2014 her story runs deeper and darker. He points out that there\u2019s actually a strong similarity between Melissa and another major character, Shauna (Melanie Lynskey). Both women seem stuck in lives they\u2019re completely fed up with. They\u2019re not just haunted by the past \u2014 they kind of miss<\/em> it.<\/p>\n
