Losing a superstar like Juan Soto<\/strong><\/a> is no small thing, and most teams would struggle to stay competitive after that kind of loss. But the New York Yankees<\/strong><\/a> aren\u2019t just any team. Despite Soto\u2019s departure, they\u2019ve managed to hold their ground and are actually looking like one of the top contenders in the American League<\/strong> so far this season.<\/p>\n

Still, even with their strong start, the Yankees<\/a> know there\u2019s always room to get better\u2014just like the classic Yankee<\/a> teams that were never satisfied with \u201cgood enough.\u201d If they really want to prove that losing Soto didn\u2019t shake them\u2014and maybe even send him a little message\u2014they could be planning something big in the offseason.<\/p>\n

One name that\u2019s starting to pop up? Kyle Tucker<\/strong>, currently with the Chicago Cubs<\/strong><\/a>. He\u2019s an all-around star\u2014solid at the plate, in the field, and still very much in his prime. Tucker is set to become a free agent<\/strong> after this season if he and the Cubs can\u2019t agree on a contract extension.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s been a lot of buzz suggesting that Tucker will<\/em> test the open market and see just how much he\u2019s worth. While there\u2019s always a chance the Cubs could work out a last-minute deal, it\u2019s not looking super likely. Why? Because the Cubs<\/a> haven\u2019t been in the habit of handing out massive contracts in recent years. That makes this situation one of the most interesting storylines to keep an eye on.<\/p>\n

Jim Bowden<\/strong> from The Athletic<\/em> weighed in and said he\u2019s skeptical that the Cubs will be able to keep Tucker. In fact, he believes Tucker could be worth a jaw-dropping $600 million<\/strong> if he hits free agency. Bowden pointed out that if Soto was able to land a $765 million deal, Tucker\u2014who\u2019s not far behind in talent\u2014could easily command something in that same ballpark.<\/p>\n

In Bowden\u2019s words:<\/p>\n

\u201cI doubt the Cubs will sign Tucker this season. He\u2019d be smart to hit free agency and see what teams are willing to pay. If Soto\u2019s worth $765 million, Tucker could be worth $600 million or more. No one really knows yet, but I don\u2019t think the Cubs will go that high.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And honestly? $600 million sounds crazy<\/em> for a baseball player, but that\u2019s just where the market is headed. The Yankees have the money, the brand, and the motivation to make a move like that.
