Floyd Mayweather, a five-weight world champion who retired with a perfect 50-0<\/strong> record, calls himself The Best Ever<\/em>\u2014and whether you agree or not, his accomplishments back up the claim. So when Mayweather speaks about boxing, his opinion carries weight.<\/p>\n

Since retiring in 2017, the 48-year-old has remained deeply involved in the sport, taking part in exhibition fights and managing and promoting fighters. Recently, he was asked to name the best active boxer in the world<\/strong>, and his answer surprised some fans.<\/p>\n

Instead of choosing Oleksandr Usyk<\/strong> or Naoya Inoue<\/strong>\u2014the top two fighters in Ring Magazine and BoxRec\u2019s pound-for-pound rankings\u2014Mayweather picked Terence \u201cBud\u201d Crawford<\/strong> as the best fighter in boxing today.<\/p>\n

Mayweather\u2019s take on Crawford<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Speaking to Forbes\u2019 Brian Mazique<\/strong>, Mayweather stated:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Terence Crawford, right now in the sport of boxing, is the pound-for-pound best fighter. It\u2019s good to see him in the position that he\u2019s in. Terence Crawford continues to be great.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Crawford, 37, from Nebraska<\/strong>, has an incredible resume. He is a four-weight world champion<\/strong> and a two-weight undisputed champion<\/strong>, boasting an unbeaten 41-0 record<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

His next challenge? Moving up two weight classes<\/strong> to face Canelo Alvarez<\/strong>\u2014a fighter Mayweather himself defeated back in 2013. The fight, set for September 2025<\/strong>, will be Crawford\u2019s toughest test yet.<\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

Crawford\u2019s rise to greatness<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Crawford made his pro debut in 2008<\/strong> but didn\u2019t claim his first major title\u2014the WBO NABO lightweight title\u2014until his 21st fight<\/strong>. His big breakthrough came in 2014<\/strong>, when he traveled to Scotland<\/strong> to defeat Ricky Burns for the WBO lightweight championship.<\/p>\n

From there, his career skyrocketed:<\/p>\n

2015<\/strong> \u2013 Became a two-weight world champion<\/strong>
2017<\/strong> \u2013 Became undisputed at super-lightweight<\/strong>
2018<\/strong> \u2013 Became a three-division world champion<\/strong>, winning the WBO welterweight title against Jeff Horn
Defended the welterweight title six times<\/strong>, defeating fighters like Amir Khan, Kell Brook, and Shawn Porter<\/p>\n
