Donald Trump\u2019s trade war with Canada\u2014and, let\u2019s be real, just about every other country\u2014is spiraling out of control, and things are definitely not going the way he imagined.<\/p>\n

In Trump\u2019s ideal world (or, more accurately, his freeze-dried little brain), the plan was simple: slap tariffs on countries he wants leverage over, force them to cave under pressure, and then bask in their gratitude when he \u201cmercifully\u201d lifts the tariffs. He probably envisioned world leaders chanting, \u201cThank you for saving us, Donald Trump!\u201d<\/em> while he rides off into the sunset with a shiny new canal, a few extra states, and maybe even a little territorial expansion for Russia.<\/p>\n

But here\u2019s the thing\u2014other countries aren\u2019t playing along. Instead of rolling over, they\u2019re standing their ground. Unlike Trump\u2019s cabinet of spineless billionaires, world leaders actually have backbones<\/em>\u2014and they\u2019re showing them.<\/p>\n

Canada fights back, and it\u2019s Americans who<\/strong>\u2019ll feel the pain<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One of the biggest thorns in Trump\u2019s side right now? Canada. Usually the calm, polite older cousin of the U.S., Canada has had enough of Trump\u2019s economic antics. In response to his tariffs, Canada is hitting back with counter-tariffs and price hikes on essential goods\u2014including electricity exported to the U.S.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t just a symbolic move. It has real consequences for northern states like New York, Michigan, and Minnesota, where millions of Americans rely on Canadian power. Ontario Premier Doug Ford made it clear that if Trump keeps escalating, Canada won\u2019t hesitate to shut off the electricity entirely. He warned that at least 1.5 million U.S. citizens could see their energy bills jump by $100 a month\u2014or worse, experience power shortages.<\/p>\n

Ford didn\u2019t mince words about who\u2019s to blame: \u201cI feel terrible for the American people because it\u2019s not them who started this trade war. It\u2019s one person\u2014President Trump.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s temper tantrum on truth social<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Predictably, Trump didn\u2019t take the pushback well. Instead of addressing the economic impact, he did what he does best\u2014complain on social media. He took to Truth Social to whine about Canada being a \u201cTariff abuser\u201d<\/em> and threw a fit over the \u201c25% surcharge on \u2018electricity,\u2019 of all things!\u201d<\/em> He even ranted that \u201cyour [sic] not even allowed to do that.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Spoiler alert, Don: Yes, Canada is<\/em> allowed to do that. Countries have the right to retaliate in trade disputes. No amount of taunting, tweeting, or tantrums is going to change that.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s final assurance that \u201cwe\u2019ll just get it all back on April 2\u201d<\/em> isn\u2019t backed by any real plan\u2014just his usual blind confidence that reality will bend to his will. But when April 2 comes and goes without his magical trade victory, you can bet we\u2019ll see an even bigger meltdown.
