He explained that they are \u201cboth a flexible and powerful tool\u201d that could significantly strengthen Ethereum by connecting layer 2 networks to the base Ethereum layer, boosting security guarantees in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Layer 2 networks like Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base have made significant revenue from transaction fees by relying on high-speed, centralized sequencers\u2014systems that determine the order in which transactions are processed and added to Ethereum blocks.
