In a recent interview with <\/span>PEOPLE<\/span><\/i>, the 74-year-old music legend didn\u2019t hold back her feelings on getting older, saying bluntly, \u201cIt f\u2014ing sucks. Like in <\/span>Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer<\/span><\/i>, you could even say it blows!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Best known for her hit songs like \u201cGirls Just Wanna Have Fun\u201d and \u201cTime After Time,\u201d Lauper, who skyrocketed to fame in the 1980s with her debut album <\/span>She\u2019s So Unusual<\/span><\/i>, is now preparing for her <\/span>Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour<\/span><\/i>. Though she may not be a fan of the aging process, the singer emphasizes the importance of maintaining her physical health and wellness.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe trick is to take care of yourself,\u201d Lauper explained. \u201cI try to force myself to do something\u2014whether it\u2019s biking, walking, lifting weights, or practicing yoga.\u201d While she admits that keeping active isn\u2019t always enjoyable, Lauper acknowledges that yoga has been particularly beneficial. \u201cYoga\u2019s great because it puts you in a mental zone,\u201d she said, sharing her secret to keeping both her body and mind in balance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite her commitment to staying in shape, Lauper remains refreshingly honest about her struggles with aging. \u201cWho wants to get old and decrepit? Nobody! But the trick is not to get too decrepit,\u201d she quipped with her trademark humor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lauper has been candid about her discomfort with getting older in the past as well. In a 2023 interview with <\/span>PEOPLE<\/span><\/i>, she reflected on her resistance to celebrating certain birthdays. \u201cOne year, when I was 38, I remember I wasn\u2019t going to get up or talk to anybody,\u201d she recalled, sharing how her producer Rick Chertoff encouraged her to embrace life, reminding her, \u201cLife starts at 30. Get up, and come on now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
